[In the words of Dr. Bill Randall] “As we cope with the many challenges that come with later life, it’s tempting to think of aging in general in mainly tragic terms: as a time of decline and little else. This way of viewing ageing fuels the depression to which some of us can fall prey. In this presentation and the discussion that follows, I’ll offer a perspective on aging that encompasses its challenges but isn’t defined by them. I’ll show how the story of later life is one of discovery and not just decline, of growing old and not just getting old. Despite its undeniably tragic elements, in other words, aging can be embraced as an intriguing, revealing adventure, one which leads us in several directions at once: Outward, Backward, Inward, and Forward.” Presenter-Dr. William Randall, EdD A native of Harvey Station, NB, Bill Randall is Emeritus Professor of Gerontology at St. Thomas University. In the winter of 2024, he was a Visiting Fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University, where he organized a conference on “Ageing as Adventure: Reimagining Later Life.” About Bill Randall - WILLIAM L RANDALL, EdD
